Talking A dream fulfilled!! (and a question! :-D )

So I got my very first Porsche...a 2009 Cayenne V6 and Im thrilled as can be with it. Love the way it looks and love the way it feels to drive. I've had my eye on this car from the first time I saw it...and love, Love, LOVE driving it!

Now for the question...the only thing that I would like to improve on is the ride quality. Is there any way the ride could be made smoother? I feel like the suspensions could be softer when going over smaller bumps rather than making me feel the contour of every pebble. (hopefully you get the idea). Is there anything I can do to help this?

I was reading through the forums but there is just way to much information for me to digest. Im hoping someone can help a noob out by simplifying things and pointing me in the right direction.

See you on the road!
B.

Check tire pressure. MANY places use either the door-tag, or the max pressure on the sidewall of the tire. If you're driving it with just you, or just you and a passenger, those pressures are TOO HIGH. Open the owners manual - and use the pressures they list for driver w/passenger (around 39PSI all the way around.) It will also handle better..

Hey deilenberger,

Thanks for the reply. Did check the tire pressure. Was running at ~ 37 all around and then just got them inflated to 39/40 (or whatever the recommended was). I actually like it better with them inflated - maybe they were just too flat earlier. Though i still feel like the ride could be better.

Any thoughts on the suspension system? I just have the 'stock' car and was reading all about modules and lowering the body etc.

Looking to get as close to the magic carpet ride as I can.

Thanks though.

I doubt if you'll get a magic carpet ride, especially with the non-air suspension (which I also have..) but - if your tires are more then 3-4 years old, there is a good chance the rubber has hardened up. That's great for tire mileage, but not great for ride comfort or ultimate tire grip. And different tires will ride hard or smooth - depends on what the engineer was shooting for when they designed them. SWMBO had a Volvo wagon with elderly Michelin tires on it - it was awful riding. And it was transformed with a new set of rubber (Kumho) all the way around.

I have a thumbnail test I use for hardness - but that's after years of calibrating my thumb on motorcycle tires (where the hardening of the rubber is even a worse problem since the contact patch is so small..) You can find the tire manufacturing date on the sidewall. Look for an oval with four numbers in it - something like 2405 - which would decipher to 24th week in 2005 as the manufacturing date. Anything older then 4-5 years is going to be harder then a new tire of the same brand/design.

Thanks for the quick replies, D.

Hmmm...so I guess I'll have to tough it out till I can upgrade, ha? So be it. :-)

Well, in any case, I still love it...

PS : On another note, is there an easy way to get A2DP bluetooth access to the PCM system?

Congrats! The first thing to try is new tires, I have the same concern with my 06 CTTS and just added Vredesteins 275/45/20. The ride (and everything) improved.
