Front Grille guard for bugs

Has anyone taken the center and side grilles out of the CTT, and then attached some kind of protective material to keep bugs from getting in and hitting the rad of the car? I can imagine after time they will plug it up.

1. How do you clean a rad with such bugs?
2. Any idea on what material would be good to use for blocking them bugs (something that does not inhibit air flow but would inhibit bug hits on the rad)?

I took the grilles out and does not look hard to attach something to them especially if it is flexible. Trying to get ideas for what could be used for this purpose.

Thanks.

One idea, run to local hardware store. Pick up screen material used to screen for windows in your house. Loosely attach screen behind grill area, a little spacing is best if you can in front of rad and intercoolers. The bugs wash off the screen pretty well and the airflow isn't blocked this way. I have used this on quite a few vehicles and it works wonders and keeps the radiator looking like new.

are you talking bug screen for doors? metal one? doesn't it block airflow to rad? Seems that such small eyes in screen would do this. Or are you saying poke some holes in it strategically (to create pattern) before install?

The screen I am referring too is either some form of plastic or fibre??? In all my uses I have never experienced any form of heating up (unless the screen becomes plugged with bugs etc). I wrap mine in a little loose so it kind of shakes if you will when you wash it, bugs fall right off and just like new. Air will flow thru that screen with zero issue.

If you buy one large sheet of the mesh screen from FVD, PM Rhonda (Site sponsor last time I checked, and great to work with), it is just enough to perfectly do a 2003-2006 Cayenne Turbo. I'll see if I can find pictures of mine. Came out great.

I have looked at the grille and the black plastic pieces do come out very easy. So it would be a question of finding material to attach to the rear of each then simply reseat them and done.

I am not sure if mesh (like door screen - especially plastic) would work well. It has to impede air flow since the holes are so tiny (or am I wrong - anyone care to comment?).

I was thinking of taking time to install the metal screen but before doing so, take the time to enlarge holes in the sheet (cut in a regular pattern or something).

Then spray (was thinking of titanium color to match the body or black - any suggestions?).

Then use some epoxy to attach to the plastic inserts and place back on the car.
