2004 Cayenne S front brakes-PEICE of CAKE

I'm a do it yourself type of guy. Needed front brake pads on my Cayenne S. have done plenty of brakes on my Benzs and motorcycles. This brake job was by far the easiest I have ever done.

1) Jack up car

2) remove tire

3) Turn steering wheel to gain better access to back of Caliper

4) remove 13 mm bolt on back of large pin that runs across top of the pads

5) using a long punch, tap pin out from inbound side of caliper while compressing clip on top of pads

6) Once pin is out use a long flathead screw driver to compress caliper pistons in.

7) Follow wear indicator wire up until you see a connection close to strut, press clip on connection in while pulling down on female side of connection

8) Pull wire out of small retainer on top of caliper

9) pull both pads straight up to remove

10) install inbound pad first insuring that long section of wire for wear indicator is on inbound side of caliper

11) install outbound pad

12) connect wear indicator wire to connection by strut

13) install large clip on top of caliper, hold clip down while reinstalling retaining pin.

14) install 13mm bolt into inboard side of pin

Install tire.

NOTE: Put some grease on pin before reinstalling it. Hold retaining clip down while tapping pin out.

Over all extremely easy with minimal tools. Save yourself $400-500 from dealer and do this yourself if possible.

I've always wanted to try it; however, the dealer always tells me I have to replace the rotor. It becomes a bigger job when you have to do the rotor.

my dealer also quoted some ridiculous amount for doing front and rear brakes...took it to an independent mechanic which did the complete job front and rear with new rotors for $1,200!!

+2, on the ease. I did rotors in the front as well, and that wasn't much harder either.
