Car is Misfiring :(

Hello 6so,

I've got a 2004 Cayenne V6 with 101,5xx miles on it. CEL came up this morning and drove it 2 miles home on it (I know stupid, but I wanted to read the code). Came up as PO 301 and PO 303. According to the code reader it meant Misfire on Cyl 1 and 3.

Those were the only codes thrown. Does anyone have any idea what this is? I found it wierd that only two misfire codes were pulled up without a sensor issue coming up.

Would this be a spark plug issue? I'm pretty sure it hasn't been changed since 70,000 mile service.

Any insight is greatly appreciated. Thank you guys!

Bret

My guess would be cracked or damaged ignition coils. It's a more common issue on the V8 cars, but it can happen to the V6 as well. It tends to manifest itself when driving in wet weather. Has it been raining lately? Even if it hasn't, that would be the first thing I would check.

I 2nd what Dennis said. If you've never experienced a bad coil pack, it'll scare the bejesus out of you. You might even experience bucking, like the car will start jerking over 3k RPM's...you think your Fu####. Turns out it's not that bad after all.

Definitely start with them...

It's been raining on and off for the past week and the cayenne has been outside in the rain just not running in the rain.

Definitely. I started the car up and it had a really rough idle like there was no ICV in the car. Wierd. I'll try to check the coils tomorrow/take it to the dealer.

Does anyone know if it is the coils, that it would be replaced under recall? I was told it was until 100,000 miles. But I'm on original coils at 101,5xx
