2008 Cayenne S check engine light came on. Code is P2181 - Cooling System Performance. Temp reads OK, car runs great for several hours on hwy. Notice middle right vent fan seems to be nowhere near as voluminous as left. Dealer takes 2 hours to diagnose, say needs new Thermo and housing - $1,700! Sounds about $700 high to me...anyone have a recent receipt from adealer showing a lower charge? Book time is 9 hours? Really?

 

Old post I know, but same thing happened to my 2008 Cayenne S and the dealer suggested new thermostat for around $1000 fitted. I can buy the part for $65. Did you get it done or do it yourself? Is it an easy DIY fix?

 

I assume its very similar to a coolant pipe change. You just have to disammemble half the vehicle to get to a $65 part.
