Pirelli Ice & Snow: 275/40-20 as all year round tire
Has anyone considered using the Pirelli Ice & Snow in 275/40-20 as an all year round tire? I have to get new tires soon, as my current Michelin Diamaris with a whopping 17K miles have seen better days. I am trying to avoid having to have purchase dedicated winter tires.
17k on a Cayenne is actually quite good. They are usually gone around 12k from what I have seen. I would advise against running the Pirelli Ice and Snow all year round as the tire was specifically designed for the cold and snow conditions meaning it will deteriate faster in the hot summer and not grip properly. You are better off getting the Pirelli for the winter and a dedicated set of summer tires or worst case, an aggressive all season tire that could nurse you through the winter. Hope this helps.
I COMPLETELY agree. A dedicated snow NEEDS to be cold to work correctly due to the very soft rubber compounding. In the summer heat they will become very soft, overheat, and wear extremely fast or worse, fail.
Don't do it, it's dangerous.

Does anyone have experience with this tire as a dedicated snow tire, as I don't like the way the Cayenne looks with 18" rims? I live in NJ, and we do get snow, but not like Vermont or Lake Tahoe.
You may not see a lot of snow, but it still gets very cold and icy. Summer performance tires get very hard in those conditions and provide no grip until they warm up. That's why winter tires are so soft. If you want a dedicated winter set in a bigger size, I can do a 20" Mille Miglia Cup 3 GT set with Conti 275/45 20 winter tires for a very reasonable price.
I'm going to create a post on it today with pictures as it's time to start thinking about it.
