I was performing maintenance on my 06 Cayenne and notice that my upper engine mount was completely disassembled.?


I luckily found the missing bolt in the carriage of the vehicle.


Is this common? how would I tell if the bushings are bas and need replacement?

 

Very common. Your bushing is cracked and should be replaced. Buy a replacement torque arm support and it's a simple DIY project. Lots of posts on this here and other forums.

I'll look at the replacement but, how do I prevent this happening with the new mount?

 

Since there is not any urethane replacement options, you cannot prevent this from happening again. Rubber bushings will crack and deteriorate over time and many heat cycles. The good news here is that the OEM design lasts for a long time before this is at risk of cracking again. I would think that you will get at least 60K miles on the new replacement (not counting time), so nothing too bad to fret over.
