Accidental Shift From Drive To Neutral....Negative effects?

I have a 2008 957 S and i was driving to work this morning. I use the tiptronic shifters a lot of the time and i came to a redlight and shot off the line when it turned green. I thought i had the shifter in the manual shift position but it was still in regular drive so when i went to shift into 2nd gear i actually shifted it into neutral. I jolted forward and shifted back to drive but it wouldnt engage so i coasted off the side of the road and parked it and then re engaged drive. I just wanted to know if anything bad could come out of this. This has never happened before and i treat the car like a baby. Am i being crazy? or could this damage the transmission?

With my limited knowledge of transmissions, shifting from drive into neutral is not really an issue, it's shifting from neutral into drive that can cause damage. I don't believe it should really be an issue unless you engaged drive with your foot hard on the gas!

No worries. I do it at times too. Neutral to D is no issue, as long as the shift button is fully depressed.
