After market wheels - need advice on quality
Guys,
I'm thinking of getting new 20" rims with snow tires to replace the stock 17s.
Does anyone have any experience with these wheels? I"m interested to know about build quality / strength / weight / reliability.
Thanks

I would buy used porsche cayenne 20" wheels. Then you know the quality and there are enough out there to make them pretty cheap on ebay. I bought some 20" sport technos and my 19" design wheels off ebay. I had some aftermarket wheels on my 05 CTT. They went out of round due to the weight of the cayenne. Wheels of good enough quality for that weight of car are expensive.

I would agree with the post above. If you are wanting the OEM style you would be safer with a set of used or refinished OEM wheels. There have been several tests of aftermarket replica wheels with pretty negative results. If you are interested in something stronger and lighter, I could recommend you a nice forged or flow forged wheel, depending on the budget you have in mind.

I have two sets of tires; a 21" Spring/Summer set (OEM GTS rims w/Vredsteins) and a 18" set (aftermarket w/Pirelli Ice+Snows) and haven't been happier.
The 18's are only 8" wide, definitely not as appealing as the 21's but they do the job in the winter and have the rubber to match. If I tried to do ANY snow driving on the 21's the pig would slip & slide all over the place, not safe or practical in any way.
If you already have a set of 17's; get a good pair of snow tires on them and pickup a Spring/Summer set with good summer tires. Changing the tires takes only about an hour and you can do it right in your own home/driveway, I recommend using a strong jack (craftsman makes a 3-ton rolling for about $100) rather then relying on the factory jack/crank which is slow.

Living in NY all my life, I've never had the need for snow tires. This winter/ past storm when it was awful and there was a road ban. I went out, didn't have one problem on my All seasons. Had a lot of fun in that snow too LOL
