AC recharge valve replacement

I have a leaky AC recharge valve on my v6 955. Anyone have tips on replacing it. Thanks in advance. Rymo

I'd suggest visiting an AC shop that has the experience, equipment and knowledge to do this job. At the very least - the refrigerant in the system has to be removed and recycled, then the valve removed and replaced, and the system pumped down and leak checked. Only then can it be filled back up.

Doing it otherwise is risky to the system and definitely detrimental to the environment. It doesn't fall into the usual DIY category.

BTW - how do you know the valve is leaking? Typically they have a secondary seal with the plastic cap that screws on (it has a gasket inside it) - so they rarely are a source of a leak.

The gauge read 0. So i got a dye can. I pump it up. Read like 15. I unplug it and the valve sprayed red dye everywhere very quickly. Put the gauge back on and reads 0 again. Nothing seems to left in the system.

OK. Even if you replace the valve - you still need a vacuum pump (good sized mechanical motor driven one) to "evacuate" the system and remove any moisture that may have gotten into the system. If it's been to "air" for long - replacing the receiver/dryer assembly also is a good idea since the desiccant used in the dryer can become moisture laden and start to fall apart - floating around and clogging the system.

So - do you have a vacuum pump with fittings that will attach to the fill connection on the AC system?

You should be able to replace the valve-core used in the connector. It's called a "Schrader Valve" (Google it) https://www.schraderinternational.co...c_lang=en-us-e

One of these might fit: http://www.autohausaz.com/search/pro... Service Valve

Without seeing your 955 I can't say which (and I no longer own a 955). They're cheap enough, so buy one of each.

After replacing it - you might try finding a HVAC shop and see if they'll pump the system out and refill it for you. The fill is done by WEIGHT of R134 refrigerant - and it's right on a sticker under the hood somewhere. It is NOT done by pressure readings. It is IMPORTANT to pump the system out - and make sure it's leak free - before refilling it.
