22's and vibration at speed
 

Ive got Gemballa 22's and they wobble the steering wheeel from 60-70ish mph. I called Gemballa, they said the wheels are a direct fit and shouldnt be a vibration issue. Took the truck to the dealer and they used the Hunter Road Force Machine and the wheels and tires balanced out PERFECTLY.....

Ive got a friend here locally that has the same issue with his Cayenne and his 22's


is there a fix for this?

i fitted Techart 22" and did 120mph in it ... stable and sterdy ... what's going on with your's ?

probably brake discs. i had shakes on my c class when i have warped discs.

the truck is rock solid above and below 60-70 on or off the brakes... hell, the truck just had its 20K mile service and they replaced the pads and rotors. there is ZERO wobble from the brakes, I can just tell its from the balance and as I said, the wheels and tires balanced perfectly on the Road Force Machine....

so at all speeds you have zero steering wheel wobble ?

I have the Gemballa 22' and I have no yet experienced any vibration issues.

hmm..... well this is quite odd. I doubt it could be in the alignment, or could it?

it obviously couldnt be a bad shock/strut due to the air suspension.




any suggestions ?

I had the same problem with the Perelli's.....I switched to the NITTO NT55's and the problem disappeared ....but either way the problem lies in the wheels and tires themselves...i bet if you throw the stock wheels back on the shaking goes away !!

It's not the brakes. It variations in the rubber and the associated balancing. It's a very delicate issue to get rubber balanced CORRECTLY on a cayenne with the bigger wheels. Ideally you want a road force variation factor of less than 15 to stop the vibration at certian speed ranges. The bigger the wheel, the more common the problem...frustrating isn't it ?

well... is there any certian specs/tips I can tell the dealer when they balance the wheels/tires ?

switch to michelins, i had the same thing, large wheels are made in 4 pieces and assembled, michelin has a special patent of assembling their large tires in 2 pieces, removes the road force issue, i had the same thing with my contis, tire shop rebalanced 4 times and changed the contis twice till they got fed up and put the michelins on, problem went away instantly...good luck

Is this during dry weather driving or only during the rain? I only had vibration issues with my HREs during the rain. It is a common problem that they vibrate during the rain over 70MPH.

He said dry and wet. Most people have this problem only during wet weather driving. If its happening to you during dry weather where it hasn't rained within 24-48hrs than something is wrong. You should go get the wheel/tires balanced at a reputable place.
