Irregular tire wear on my Cayenne, dealer says it's normal
Last year I purchased my wife a 2005 Cayenne, which is driven gently. At about 10,000 miles I noticed the front outer edges of the tires were wearing to quickly (outer 1 1/2" of the tire). I assumed the allignment was out. Took the car to my local Porsche dealer. They re-alligned the car and rotated the tires. Now at 16,000 miles the tires rotated from the rear to the front have the outer edges worn down.
I take the car to the dealer again and they give me a bunch of BS. First they say it's normal. Then they say it is the soft tires. I asked them why they charged me to re-allign the car the first time if this was normal wear. They said, "they shouldn't have alligned the car the first time".
They again checked the allignment which was within specs. Tire pressure has always been checked.
THE BIG QUESTION, IS MY DEALER FULL OF BS OR DO THE CAYENNE'S NORMALLY WEAR THE FRONT OUTER 1 1/2" of the TIRES QUICKLY? 16m miles on the tires and there toast.

Don't expect to make it to 20K miles on a car with performance tires. These tires use a soft compound to help the car achieve the grip we seek when we buy our German bahn-burners. My Audis never make it to 19K and they weigh a whole ton less than the Cayenne. Also try to remember the force exerted on tires when we stop- additional wear. But don't take my word for it, read the older threads in this and other forums. I5K - 16K is the normal maximum milage for these beasts. My Turanzas have 8K on them and I can see they are half gone.
The big problem is the uneven tire wear. It would be understandable if the tires wore evenly. This is wearing the outer edge of the tire as if there is an allignment problem.
Sorry, I saw 1/2 of the tire, not 1.5". That does sound like an alignment problem; however if they do another alignment they may not get paid by PCNA, and they would be admitting their screw-up.
Find a local guy who specializes in Porsches and have him look at it & align it if necessary.
I wouldn't trust your dealer to align my car knowing what you know now.

Mine have worn evenly.I just wonder how in the heck you got 16000 out of them.Mine is at 10,000 and will not go through inspection next month.I think BobbySpeed is onto something with getting someone else to look at it.
