picking up a cayenne s tomorrow

After much debating between the regular, s and turbo models-not to mention exploring the used car way as well, I decided on a new Cayenne S. The car is being picked up tomorrow.

Titanium
black interior
xenons
18 all seasons
keyless entry and start
heated seats and steering wheel
color crests
back shades
moonroof.

The options were not all my choice but it beat waiting for a car. I could have done without the shades and keyless entry and would have went with the pre heat option if time permitted.

I found that the used cayenne s market was fairly strong with most used cars going in the 52-54 range. I used ebay, autotrader and porsche's website to compare prices and then called. But getting the right color combination was a bit difficult. There is clearly a penalty on the used car market for certain colors.

The turbo market was very soft and appeared to be following a downward trend. I was offered many turbos with 4500 miles in the 72K price range. The more popular colors had a 3K advantage on the whole.

There were no regular cayennes on the market to gain a sense of the price direction, but I believe that a lightly optioned v 6 cayenne will take the least depreciation. I also found the car to be extremely fun b/c of the weight difference. I know that the porsche website only states the weight difference is around 200 lbs. I think the fact that the weight difference is all up front, makes for a very tossable v6.

As for dealers. I did look around more for the used market then new market when deciding on dealers. Since I was going with a new car I ended up going with Silverstar motorsports for the following reasons. And yes I was away last week when all silverstar news came about.

First I think that Silverstar has a great service department. And I have dealt with Arte and Jack many times. Second I believe that Arte the GM is truly honest in his approach to dealing with customers and friends. He says it like it is and doesn't give lip service. He is a tough guy but has always done the right thing by me in terms of time, service and friends. I haven't really dealt with Lana but was a huge fan of Gene Werst when he was there. I did get allot of help from other dealers such as Jaime Brandel and guys from John Holtz in my search for a used car and for this I can clearly state that I was impressed. And even more important was the fact that Arte was one of the first guys to support this board, was in full favor of an open forum b/c he believed that quality work would rise to the top, and b/c his dealership needs some well deserved quality press after the week from hell that I read about last.

thank you for the excellent summary of the Cayenne market right now. I am waffling over an April delivery on a heavily optioned "S" and it was nice to hear the used market is strong. Is the towing of a 3300 # car on a trailor really going to be no problem for the "S" car? As for silverstar. It is also good of you to go to bat for someone/business that you respect.
