THE best radar detector...
#124
Did you happen to notice the dates of the K40 Calibre's radar detection test and laser jamming test. The radar detection test was done in October of 2005 and SML didn't test the laser jamming capability for some reason. The reason is because the K40 failed to jam any lidar guns used by police. K40 knew that their laser jamming didn't work which is why they didn't test it again until October of 2007. For two years, people have been rolling around with a $2000 K40 Calibre with average radar detection and no laser jamming capabilties. Like crazyVOLVOrob said, you can't trust what SML says because they are paid for their testing and the makers of the K40 were there during the testing. SML has lied and misled people in the past with their testing so these results really don't mean anything.

guys of lidar, aren't those the little boys that thought they knew how to booger up an install on a pick up in one of your videos that they posted and you referenced? They are amateurs it is kind of like this scenario... you take the best speakers in the world and give them to an amateur and a cheap pair professionally installed will sound better. see it every day... or should I say i have to fix shiet everyday because people read some BS internet monkey, giving biased opinions, such as yours. not to mention all the 23 year old installation specialists... that can't follow a picture diagram, because they can't read....

V1 in Southern California
I loved my V1 when i lived in Detroit but ever since moving to so cal, i can not take all the beeps anymore (left it off most of the time). i dont know what is it, maybe the hills and mountains? This thing is just always going off everywhere i go. I am now using the escort 9500i. the ramp up sux compaired to the V1 but atleast i leave it on now and dont get a headache from it. The key to the 9500i is to slow down as soon as you hear anything. Anyone here having luck with the V1 in so cal?

Have the V1 and generally happy with it, though seems I get false alerts everytime I pass an Infiniti FX with the laser guided cruise control. Also it goes berzerk from the LED tail light of the Trailblazer. Weird, called Valentine and they admitted to this deficiency and said they will be addressing it in due time...

baseballfanz,
Have you had yours updated? I did that with my older unit and it seems to pick up stuff it didn't get before. I think the update and shipping was about $100 or so. You can check the serial # to see if it can be updated. Quick turnaround.

I have a bunch of K40s Calibre and I like them very much, but there will soon be a new detector in town: the Escort 9500ci which is undetectable by the Spectre IV and looks pretty cool with the GPS.

I think a point that is really being missed is....where are you driving and what is the terrain?
I live in Ohio and there arent any mountains, hills, etc. Just flat wide open space. The grid system of the street tells you how fast you went in a mile
I own a V1 and a Passport. They both work just fine for me. I got the V1 for two reasons...it one of the best performers and it has a rear sensor. I got a ticket while driving 120mph on the turnpike. Noone around for miles, just me and, at teh time, my Corvette. The cop caught up to me in a pursuit car going over 150mph (his claim). I dont know if he got me on radar or not (I assuming not as I would have went to jail) but I realize they can coem from behind.
In my truck (Chevy Avalanche) I like to drive around 75-80mph on the turnpike because the trucks can go 70mph now and I dont think its safe driving with them.
I cold have bought a $100 Cobra and been fine in my truck. Im not goign that much over and the terrain is flat. I just bought the Passport because I didnt want a cord.
