my 11 CS is taking oil much faster than 09 GTS. i was putting in about 1 qt every 6-800 miles. dealer confirmed low level many times. it just got oil changed at the dealer and the light came on after another 600 miles!!

The specification for oil consumption is "up to 1.5l/1000km". I just did the math, and that means you can use as much as one quart every 392 miles, and still be within spec!

The car has been fine since I got it back. The invoice said "had to lift the engine up about 3 inches with a special tool in order to remove the faulty oil level sensor." Good thing it's on warranty

not better after 10k miles. still needing 1 quart 600-700 miles. this has been confirmed by dealer last 4 times and told that it is normal for the V8. as much as i love the truck, it really irritates me when that warning light comes on. long story short, sold the cayenne last week.....

took my car in 2 weeks ago after having to add 2 qts of oil and the message was still there. Dealer ran a bunch of tests and ultimately added another quart and the message went away. While the car was there, the porsche rep stopped by and flashed the computer with a new firmware that will supposedly make the computer consume less oil...So I will update on that next time the light goes on. I have 16k miles and still adding oil every 600-1000 miles.

So far I've added 2 quarts after 4700 miles. Lots of highway and some city driving.

by the way, i drive mostly on the streets not highway. i sold the cayenne back to the dealer and has nothing to do with the oil consumption despite a lot of annoyance. but i was given a lot for the trade in and i thought i would try something else given that i like to change cars. unfortunately i wasn't able to get a 997 after trying to put the car seat in! i ended up with a M3 sedan with competition package. so far i think i like it.

Here is what I know so far...
After reading this thread, I went a bought a case of oil thinking that I would be pouring out the tailpipe.
I have been watching my oil level and it has been showing full. So I took it in my 11 CTT thinking something was amiss.
890 miles have not had to add oil. ( kept under 4000rpm per manual)
My technician stated that you should be driving your new Cayenne in sport mode for at least the first 1000 miles, which by chance I have.
He said there is a bulletin coming from Porsche that states the oil consumption is from the transmission is shifting all the way to 8th gear at very low speeds. He also confirmed the sonar units have been faulty. Supposedly there is a computer software revision in the works and due very soon.

my '11 CTT is also oil thirsty. I have 3800 miles on her since early March and have put in at least 5 quarts on my own and the dealer has topped it off too. The shortest distance between alerts has been between 300-400 miles. I had it flatbedded to dealer once (6 wks ago) when she started all funny then went into a "limp home mode" ... turned out to be high pressure fuel pump failure. While it was there they checked on the oil consumption issue and the sensors/software was OK.

I just topped it off yesterday and it was a 600 mile interval from my last time.

when you top it off, do you need to manually reset the sensor? or does the warning goes away?

how many qt of oil do you normally keep in the trunk? i am picking my '12 CTT this saturday and dealer already warned me about the 1 qt per 600 miles =)

I hit 4K and added 1 quart to date - mostly highway Didn't abuse it, but drove it hard the first 1,000 miles with lots of varying highway speeds and gears. This also included pulling a 4,000 lb trailer.

My dealership said some use oil, others don't. Agree with those with consumption to get documented with dealer. Heard Panos may have same issue too.

the min oil level alert comes on and I add one quart. The alert goes away and it reads max level. I haven't kept any extra oil in the car. Its my daily driver and do 30 miles or so roundtrip daily. If I was taking it on an extended trip, I'd plan accordingly taking a quart or 2 with me I guess.

I did get a case of Mobil 1 0W-40 and have it on hand in the garage. For my vehicle, I know it means I am down a quart but not empty, I add a quart at my next convenience.
