2011 fitting TPMS later

Hi there from Australia,
great forum you have here, it is a wealth of information. I am taking delivery of a Cayenne diesel in about 8 weeks. I did not order TPMS or a wheel upgrade as I could'nt decide what to get and was thinking an aftermarket setup. I have decided to go with OEM 21 inch Turbo 11 wheels that come with TPMS sensors. Does anyone know if the headunit will come with this anyhow and if I could get it up and running? I am not too fussed either way but thought if I have it I might as well use it.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Alby

BTW: I am pretty dirty on how cheap you guys can get yourselves into a Porsche. A base model Cayenne S costs us $155,000 without any goodies

TPMS is federally mandated in the USA, so all cars have them. In addition to a sensor in each wheel, there is a receiver in each wheel housing, so hard to know if that is included without the TPMS option. The wiring in the harness most likely is there. I would check with your dealer about the receivers.

very difficult, not only do you need the sensors (500USD) but your car will need to be wired for the system in each wheel well and then programmed to recieve the signals..

i would say its at least 1500USD or more... your porsche service department should know... but its a lot more than sensors.. the porsche system is self learning and has sensors all around the car.

as far as the 21" wheels, they dont "require" sensors... so you could just buy the wheels and tires and run them without sensors, as you are now....

the best bet would be to buy non porsche wheels for the money... some HRE's would probably run you around the same and be lighter.. stronger... sexier..

if your adding the option, and they can put it into the build, i would assume they would add the system to the car.. (can they still modify the build?)

I am not able to add to the build, my car will come with factory 18" I am just buying the OEM wheels seperately and changing them over. TPMS is not common over here so did not consider it in my build, the 21 Turbo 11 wheels come with it at no extra cost so I just thought I would see if it would work. I will wait and see when it arrives and see how it goes but as I said not fussed either way.
I know what you are saying about getting non genuine and that was my initial thought but I have not fallen in love with any wheel in particular and aftermarket wheels on prestige cars here has a detrimental effect on resale value ( my dealer told me it would cost you 10 grand at trade in time)
I did consider a Turbo 11 replica but they are all 9.5" and I am not keen on 22' as I think it will ride too hard so ideally I am after a 21 x 10 fitment and nothing else has grabbed my attention.
So as much as it pains me I look like I will be shelling out the extra coin for OEM

Thankyou for all of your replies.

If you do have any wheel suggestions I am definately listening.
