So, on the porsche website videos, I've seen a very cool power-folding tow hitch on the 958. See below:



I was surprised to learn this is not the tow hitch we're getting when paying $650 here in the states, instead we get:

And which also causes us to have a very weirdly shaped rear skid plate:



I wonder, has anyone looked into installing the power folding hitch? I'm guessing it's near unto impossible? I'm sure there's US regulations which make it technically illegal too...

If you get the rear skid plate without tow hitch, do you get the straight or angled version? Anybody regretting the tow hitch, for cosmetic reasons? I want the towing functionality, I just really wish we had the power-folding version available as an option, how awesome would that be??

 

Oh my, I goofed on my configuration if this is true. I thought the permanent tow hitch that was in the configuration was the motorized swinging one and by default, it comes with the 2nd picture you have there. If not then I'm a bit cheezed. I was really hoping for that tow hitch. Anyone know if you can install one afterward without any issues?

 

I have the factory tow hitch and it is NOT the folding one.

 

I confirmed with a dealer that the power folding one is not available in the US. I'm sure there's some federal regulation that forbids a tow hitch from being cool, or aesthetic, it's probably right below the regulation that requires amber yellow side markers

 

I have the factory installed Euro type (picture 01), and my SS rear skid plate is angled. same as US models

My hitch is not the powered version, I can take it out with a lever hidden under the bumper.
