Bi Xenon Question.

The headlight conversion thread got me thinking.

If we have Bi Xenons why is there a high beam halogen light? I notice that when I turn on my High beams that the xenons seem to have a gate open up that allows more light out, but if that's the case why is a halogen light included?

ColoradoCayenne is infamous around these parts
Every car I have owned with bi-xenons has had halogen high beams. Probably because it takes time for xenons to "warm up" and halogens can be flashed and activated almost immediately. I don't believe xenons can perform in the same way. It is also likely the reason why the cornering lights are halogen as well.

The Xenon hid does take a couple of second to be fully lit up to 100% brightness.
If you consistently flashes the high beam, the HID conversion is not recommended.

I didn't even think about that, total blank out on my part.

I remember reading somewhere that constant on/off of HID bulbs will cause them to wear prematurely as the HID bulb takes time to warm up, so that may be a factor in including the halogen.

The HID kit I installed on the high beam side of the cayenne is for testing purposes. The HID kit and the required adaptors are for my brother in law VW GTI. His vehicle did not come HID. I'll be do the installation this weekend.
