Trying to buy a Cayenne but am I going to get sued?!?

Hey Guys,

Been lurking a while but first time posting. Please forgive if this has been brought up in the past. I've been in the market for a Cayenne V6 for a while and been shopping around.

Yesterday I spoke with a sales rep at a dealership that mentioned something that sort of scared me. He mentioned that the reason why the cayenne is so hard to find right now is because a lot of people have been buying up these cars in the US and exporting them to China and if they ever track down a VIN that was sold in the US, they'll fine the dealership that sold it and sue the person who bought it.

At the time I was like eh no big deal, I'm not giving up my cayenne no way no how... but then I started thinking what happens when I eventually sell this car down the road? I would have no control of where this vehicle ends up. Given the ridiculous demand for these cars in China, seems like theres potential for getting mixed up in this whole mess purely by accident.

I have no idea if the sales rep was just bluffing me or what but I'm definitely concerned. Figured I'd come here to request some advice.

Thanks in advance. Appreciate any feedback.

Don't be concerned. It's that simple. You're allowed to sell to whomever you like. Now if your buying a fleet of cara for this purpose be concerned.
Guessing the sales guy isn't the brightest bulb on the tree....

Actually we had to sign a paper stating that we would not export/sale the car for at least 1 year(I'm assuming the is what your Dealer was referring to). Not that it is my intention to, but I guess it happens enough that they require a contract for it.

As far as the OP is concerned buy it and if in a few years you sell it you have nothing to be worried about. Now if you make a habit of buying Porsche cars and after the 1 year mark exporting them, then at some point you may just be blacklisted, if found out about.

ah I see. Thanks guys. That def helps put my mind more at ease. Its kind of ridiculous that the problem is so pervasive they have to make everyone sign something like this.

I appreciate the feedback.
