Cayenne vs Touareg Turbo Diesel

Trying to decide if it is worth the wait for the Cayenne diesel to come to the USA as the Touareg is here now. Reality is that to get a Touareg diesel it would have to be ordered with a significant wait for delivery.

We are looking for a vehicle to tow our track car and for off road use. By off road use we are not looking for Unimog performance. We would like to explore off road and do intend to travel to areas where getting premium fuel would be more difficult than diesel.

As most countries already have both the Cayenne and Touareg Turbo Diesels, what is y'alls opinion of these two vehicles for our intended purpose?

Thanks

Hold out for the Cayenne Diesel, you won't be disappointed.

I own a Cayenne Diesel and have driven the Touarag diesel extensively throughout Europe. Chalk and cheese with the way they feel on the road. The Cayenne feels far more planted and responsive and much more of a drivers car than the Touareg.

I tow a race car with the Cayenne (all up weight just under 3,400kgs with all the gear loaded up) and it handles it without any problems at all.

And in my opinion it looks a whole lot better as well.

Seb.

Thanks for the info and photo's, we are going to wait for the Cayenne Turbo Diesel.

You have a nice trailer set up. Have you added anything for weight distribution or sway control?

It looks like you have the Porsche skid plates, are they really functional or would after market provide more protection?

Thanks again

I haven't done anything re weight distribution as the trailer is extremely stable as is. No problems with sway either.

Skid plate on the front is not too bad, big enough to offer some solid protection. the one on the rear is really only for looks as it doesn't offer much in the way of protection. Dedicated aftermarket off road underbody protection panels would be the best solution if you are going to do any serious offroad.
