Update of the Navigation system....
I have a 2011. I was told , by the dealer, that the Maps of the Navigation system will be done automatically. Do you know when and how this is done? The maps are clearly outdated. My exit from freeway does not exist in the navigation system.
Thanks
Gopal

If the implication from the dealer is that the updates are done at the dealership without charge, I will believe it when I see it; it seems to go against every fiber of Porsche's business model and every experience I have had or heard about on this and other forums. Moreover, both MB and BMW charge between $250 and $300 for the updates, I assume Porsche will be similar, whether it is dvd or hardrive based. Just my $.02

Depending on the build date, you should have the latest map. Porsche is selling a 2011/2012 update which needs to be installed by a dealer for about $ 400 USD. The maps are in general about a year old when issued. A release of September 2011, means the map contains updated information through October 2010. Check Suncoast parts for cost of update. Installation costs will vary by dealer.
I am sorry guessed at the price of the upgrade. Suncoast sells the upgrade for $ 439.00, dealer installation is extra.

Sorry, getting cynical in my old age.
Although I have the Navigation option, I found it would calculate odd routes. For instance, on a trip from TN to VA, it wanted to drive North through KY, then East to VA. Way off target.
If we are going on a complicated trip, I usually pull out the Garmin Nuvi and trust that. You can buy a good Nuvi with lifetime updates for a heck of a lot less than a Porsche update.
A drawback is where to plug it in. The 12v outlet in the middle of the cupholders is one of those "who thought to put that there" Porsche features. There is a 12v outlet under the glove box that is awkward, but is more useful.
