I completely agree!

PP for an AMG is almost a must, yes? More torque, more HP and some exclusive upgrades. At least for a guy, I think the PP for AMG's are almost like a markup most want and (must) pay.

At roughly 108k as you spec'd it out, and perhaps considering since the AMG is a new model and no discount, while CTT are offering 5-7k off, the CTT is not too much more.

Just ordered the 2012 for my wife which should land here in May. I have had the 2011 CTT for about a year now and love it. In Australia, the price difference is approx $90K ($190K vs $280K). My wife is going from a Disco4 to the ML63 as she wanted a more sporty drive but maintain some level of comfort and practacality for the school run (hence I did not add on the PP but it comes with the PP 21 inch wheels as standard). Apart from the better price and new technology compared to the CS, the cargo area opening is a little bigger and more practical to load the family dog, groceries etc. Personally I prefer my CTT, but my wife, having owned a ML500 in the past, always liked it's versatility and blend of sport/comfort compared to Cayenne and X5. Can't wait to sample both side by side!
Cheers

G55 rates "The meanest cars for the environment in 2012"

ML63 was rated "bad" also in previous years.

I highly doubt if you can get 17-19 miles/gallon

For $109 you are so close to the CTT... just go for the right car. You won't be disappointed. None of us CTT drivers are...

Whichever car you go for don't get a base optioned.
If you get a CTT actually put options into it, or the S, or the AMG.
A highly optioned CTT is $150k vs a highly optioned S is $105k vs a highly optioned AMG $110k.

They are all different vehicles at those prices.
We have that Merc in the family and I love the fit and finish and refinements of the CTT over the Mercedes.
With that said the Mercedes is an easier drive, vs the CTT that has the air susp, PDCC, ptv, ceramics, burmeater, etc.

Hard choice based on your preferences.
The female driver in my house drives the merc and escalade. I drive the Porsches.

Good luck.

Thanks for the great responses.

Jace you are spot on, when outfitted properly a CTT is no where near a $10k difference from a ML63. If it was me I would probably do a Panamera GTS over a CTT but for the wife I think the ML63 is a great middle ground. I'll need to make a decision in the next couple of weeks.

Regarding Porsche dealers, I've visited New Country in Greenwich, CT (about 15 minutes away) and Pepe in White Plains, about 10 minutes away. in both cases the service was very weak with very little interest in really working a deal. I wasn't even asking for anything less than MSRP to start. New Country wanted almost $10k deposit for a custom order! I've never had to put such a large deposit on an order.

We'll see what happens.

Al

AMG looks great, looks aggressive at first, no doubt, very hot car, as most AMGs are ..... But after driving it for about a year, all that wears off, trust me ........!! lol ..... That excitement from the exterior will not last ... Guranteed ....

My ml63 engine had to be replaced
Dropped a valve and put hole in puston
Common problem!
Stay away
Class action in America over 63 engines
Bought a cayenne and love it!
