Cayenne V6 vs Range Rover Sport
Cayenne V6 vs Range Rover Sport
Currently have a Cayenne V6 in a 6sp manual. Love the car but realizing that i may need something the wife can drive. Teaching her to drive stick is not an option. Thinking about trading in for a V6 auto, which i've heard is pretty sluggish compared to the manual. Or floating the idea of a Range Rover Sport. Base, not supercharged, unless i can get a real good deal.
What's everyone's thoughts? I still need to drive the Range but would love to hear people opinions who have had both, to include cost of owership, ride, performance, etc.
Thanks!

I have a 2010 RRS HSE Lux and my wife drives a 2011 Cayenne S. For the money the HSE Lux version is pretty well optioned for the price, rides nice, good acceleration, though you definitely feel the body roll through corners. I'm not sure about the V6, but the HSE doesn't hold a candle to the S in terms of acceleration and cornering. And with the Cayenne there are much more options to choose, but clearly you pay. The pepper has a better Sat/Nav and the touch controls are much better thought out and planned than the guys who built the RRS sat/nav. We haven't had any really snow since buying the CS, but the RRS with a set of snows is unbelievable in the snow and the RRS has better cargo storage and the rear does not taper off in the back. I have 33K miles on it since new, and besides the schedule maintenance & new brakes, the only time its spent at the shop is for a e-brake caliper that decided to stay engaged and would't release. If you're going to buy used stay away from anything before 2010. I have a super charged before getting my 2010 and it was in the shop every other month. I'm actually about to sell my RRS for a 2013 CS that has a 7/5 build date. I like the RRS, but I see them everywhere. I don't see as many peppers around. I really like the RRS, and if I didn't want to custom order a JBM CS, I'd probably keep it. Its been a good truck. I would definitely spend the extra couple grand for the Lux package on the RRS. Its worth the extra $$$
I haven't driven the manual V6 so cannot really compare but doubt you will be disappointed with the automatic. I find it responsive and fast enough. I test drove the RRS and it does have more torque and is pretty nice but I prefer the Cayenne. Better ride quality, more customizable, and much much better gas mileage. RRS does have more cargo room but I found not enoug headroom. I'm 6'3" and my head was touching the roof in the RRS while I have a couple of inches of room in the Cayenne
while i love the RRS, i think the Cayenne is more me in terms of personality.
The lux does offer some nice interior options. I would pick a Cayenne every time. If i had a need for a second suv, it would be the RRS lux for sure.

I owned both, or I still own a 2013 RRS HSE LUX and as far as performance and comfort...the RRS is far more sophisticated than the Cayenne V6.
The RRS does not need to be spercharged, as it costs too much and the difference will not be used! as the 5.0 V8 engine on the RRS is simply a GREAT ENGINE.
I also think tha the RRS is a big gas drinker, as I average 13MPG between local and hiwghway driving, so the Cayenne has an advantage over that, however there is no comparison in comfort and space, plus the RRS is simply THE BEST off-road vehicle out there, but WHO GOES OFF-ROAD ANYWAY!
The car is HEAVY but takes snow as if it was driving on a clear day! very capable as well.
I am in the market myslef for a different ride, as I am KINDA looking for a performer, so I am considering a 2014 Grand Cherokee SRT (6.4L), which has ALL THE OPTIONS imaginable for the same price as a mid-level Cayenne V6 or a RRS HSE, but I am alsmot sure that the ride will be much different and much much less comfy than any o the others.
I will post on Sunday after my test drive with the new SRT.
Good luck with your decision.

I love the look of the 14' RR sport, honestly I really want to own one.
Ive gone to my dealer four times to take a look at it trying to convince myself, but every time I took a test drive I came with the conclusion that aside from the fantastic looks and the classy interior, it drives like a Ford Explorer, it rides pretty much the same as the model it replaces, miles away from a Cayenne and even a MB or BMW.
