Cayenne as a DD?

All Cayenne owners,

I am about to be relocated, which will put me about 5 hours away from my son and currently looking to trade in my Tahoe for a new DD. The main thing I am looking for is something that is comfortable for that long drive, fairly reasonable on gas, and as a DD. I plan on keeping my C4 but don't need a huge Tahoe as my DD, although I love having the SUV capability when needed. As of now, I have narrowed it down to three different vehicles:

1. Mercedes CLS550
2. Cayenne - preferably Turbo, S, or GTS model
3. Audi S4

I am single, and have my son several times per month but most of the time its just me and was wondering what your opinions are on the Cayenne? I know I will get a fair and unbiased opinion from all you Cayenne owners too.

Is it me or those selections of cars have 0 overlaps. "Reasonable" gas pretty much knocks out 2 out of 3 and I don't think I need to spell that out for you. You need to decide if you want extra space or not. Also, the price range of these vehicles vary quite a bit. Are you strictly looking new or used? Not enough information to give good opinions.

Laughing... there is absolutely no rhyme or reason to those 3 vehicles; other than the fact that I like them and I know the CLS and Cayenne both have received great reviews. And for me, 20 to 21 mpg on the HWY is "reasonable."

Why stop at CLS 550 if you are even considering GTS/TT? Why not CLS63? All those vehicles will likely gonna get you 20~21 MPG. 60k to 100k+ range...I'd get Cayenne GTS/TT. (I am biased)

I have owned 997tts as well,but decided last year to only have one car
Picked a 2011 CT,thinking it would be a great compromise:quite fast,fun,practical and comfy
I am happier every day with my choice

If you need the space of an SUV or just like sitting up high, I can't imagine a better DD than a Cayenne Turbo. Not sure about the gas mileage however with the Turbo. I have never bettered 16 with mixed driving. Maybe with pure Highway driving that would go up. The non Turbo could be a different story also.

i've had a cayenne S as a daily driver (about 60 miles each way of highway) for a couple years...very comfortable, and highway driving is easily in the low 20s or better for mileage. waiting for my '13 turbo currently, so we'll see how that does later this summer

I say skip this and get V6 if you are so concerned about MPG. I can hardly justify extra cost for diesel over V6. If I was considering Diesel, I'd go with S without a second thought.

my ctt gets 11 mpg unless you wear a turbin, i wouldnt think this would be a good choice.

I had a CLS (W219 CLS55) before going to CTT. It was the older CLS, and the much sportier AMG version, and a really great car actually. Mileage-wise, I'm pretty sure the new 550 will get better mileage than the CTT. On highway, you can about 20-22 in the CTT, maybe a little higher if you really push it. The CLS is 24 according to MB, maybe a bit more in real life.

Comfort-wise, I'm gonna guess the CLS is actually a more comfortable long distance cruiser. The CTT is not harsh by any stretch of the imagination, but even in comfort mode I find it quite "focused", and definitely not floaty. Even my AMG with it's sport suspension was a bit softer I'd say, I'm sure the 550 even more so.

We're also talking like $40k difference between these two cars, if that makes any difference. If you don't need the extra power, extra space, or flexibility of an SUV, and comfortable cruise is your main priority, I'd say go with the CLS. It's hard to go wrong with either of those two cars. (The S4 I'm gonna recommend against because it would have the most base interior, and being an S4 probably the stiffest ride.)

I have a CTT and use it daily. Over the 27,000 miles I have on the car I average 16.9 mpg. 80% city.

Highway I easily get 24+ mph when doing 80mph+.

Great car for daily I like the open feel. I use the cargo to where I actually need the extra space vs a normal trunk in a smaller car once a month. Sport seats are very comfortable in 12 hour drives.

Great leg room, great car.

Don't turn back, get the 2011+ CTT.
