Tpms?

Since I'll usually check my tires every two to three weeks, is TPMS still useful? Can TPMS be retrofitted if originally did not order it? Thanks!

Very useful. Two weeks ago mine went off on the Pa. Turnpike in a driving rainstorm in our Turbo S. I was able to watch the pressure slowly drop with the hopes of getting off the next exit in about 2 miles. Planned on pulling over if it got down to 20 pounds in order not to damage the tire or rim. Fortunately I made it off and into a large parking lot to wait for Porsche Roadside Assistance. There is no spare or jack in the 997. Last week I had the same thing happen in the GT2. It has not been a good few weeks as far as tires go for me. I have no idea if an OEM monitor can be retrofitted but pretty sure there are aftermarket units available.

Yes, TPMS is very useful. From my understanding, you cannot retrofit the TPMS. If you think you need it, you can search for aftermarket solutions.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but hit a pothole Friday night and by Saturday morning had a very flat rear Michelin. First time ever called Porsche Roadside. They are excellent! A notch above BMW or Mercedes. Very organized efficient, and nice. A hidden reason to buy Porsche.
P.S. if you have 21" low profile tires, the Wheel/Tire insurance is a good buy.

Sorry about that, glad to have confirmation that PR works well
Though I wish upon everyone never having to find out
Too bad W/T insurance does not cover tires over 21s

My experience with Porsche Roadside Assistance was mediocre. Had a flat and called them, the guy showed up 3 HOURS LATER! To be fair, they did warn me it would take up to 3 hours.

The guy who showed up was pretty big, and he wasn't able to fit into the seat in my 997. So he asked me to drive it up the flatbed. WTF! I probably worn out half my clutch going up that steep bed.

On the way he told me they are independently operated towing company, which they secure contracts with exotic car manufacturers like Porsche, Ferrari, Mesarati, etc. They get a fee for bringing the cars to the dealer, which is why they will not tow it to your home or an indy shop.

As a comparison, Mercedes Roadside assistance is operated by Mercedes dealers, at least the ones in this area. They are much more professional, and will do certain warranty replacements on the spot like dead batteries.

Next time I am calling AAA...

Wow, your experience sucked!
I had super nice people on the phone who promised me that service would arrive in 50 minutes. After 45 minutes they apologized that the driver was running 10 minutes late. I was amazed at this. Both the close monitoring and the service orientation was beyond the call. The guy arrived 14 minutes later and did a careful and thorough job. When he was about to leave another call came through to find out if all was well. When you are having car issues it is nice to know someone has your back.
