PCM Version v3.40 - why do some have v2.44?

2012 CS, wife's vehicle supposedly had the latest update from Porsche serviced around April or May this year. On the Nav unit, she can also select Temp or Clock on bottom right corner. She chose Temp because her's was during the production date that included the free dash analog wart-clock.

Why do some have V2.44? I'm assuming the the later the version number, the newer the version, yes?

EIDT: Build Date 11-2011, Delivery 1-2012

2011 models are current with 2.44; I suspect it has something to do with the wart clock in later years that required a different build in the firmware calling it 3.4x

I have a 2011 recently updated to the "latest" 2.44 to fix the lost presets and to get the clock in the lower right corner of the screen

'Wart clock'
Thanks for the explanation
I am happy with my compass, both for it's usefulness and esthetics-with the elegant way the compass face shines
