Panorama on the Cayenne Diesel

Most of you have probably seen this, but in the event you havent' ..

Panorama Magazine did a short road test/review of the Cayenne diesel in their latest issue (Oct 12). In summary, they loved it. The author's last comment in the road test reads, "The Cayenne diesel has every attribute required to be the best selling (Cayenne) of them all. It is, in my mind, the best of them all."

That should make all of us happy about our decision to bring one home.

Hmm, maybe in America. The Cayenne diesel is not new, it has been around since the 958 debut back in early 2010, and by no means is the best selling model of the Cayenne line, the V6 holds that title by far, followed by the S.

No offense intended but I really dont get why you guys are going nuts with diesel engines on high-end sport SUVs, it has to be the novelty. Doesnt make sense to me, you have cheap gas prices and ironically you must be the only country in the world where Diesel costs more than Gas.

Please dont get me wrong, The 958 V6 diesel drives great but I wouldnt say its "the best of them all", in my case, it only makes sense if I drive tons of Km/year, and that is with gas prices that are much more expensive than yours and a diesel fuel that costs less than gas.
Said that, I will consider getting the Diesel S after the facelift, The torque would be nice.

Hi Galion,

The Porsche cayenne diesel is new here, and for me personally is not about novelty, but rather the perfect balance of power, price, and fuel economy, the V6 for me felt sluggish, seems to only make power in the higher rpms, the hybrid is not yet there for me, the GTS and Turbo was out of my price range for a daily driver so I did not consider it.

The "best of them all" comment is more about which model would the average person buy with price consideration, and for me was the diesel.

Fair enough
Just for the record, in our market a Cayenne V6 diesel costs as much as an S, both with similar options, maybe they are taxed higher.

I will not get the Cayenne Diesel as I need the 4-zone climate control which is available in European Cayenne Diesel but not in US/Canada.
