Still an excellent topic!
Drove a new Boxster S last month and I can imagine someone choosing it over an entry level 991.

+1 to that. I drove a new Boxter S on track right after flogging around a 991 911. The Boxter S made me smile more. Then I jumped into a 991 911S and found my perfect ride. A 991 911S is in my future. But to answer the original question; IMHO, the new Boxter S > 991 911.

the Box S feels more nimble and has a superior driving position.

The Boxster/Cayman are both great, very fun little cars, but the 911 is the alpha dog of the Porsche breed, two more seats and a whole different experience as a whole package.
I am not sold.
