What's the deal with engine ping in 12 CS?

After picking up my 12 CS last June, I've loved my car. At about 6K miles I heard a little pinging. Service Advisor said it was normal through first 10K and should eventually go away. Seems that after recent 10K service I'm hearing it even more. Different Advisor says it's normal. This is my third Porsche and never heard ping or an excuse for it. ?????

I have a 2013 CS and I've been hearing engine knocking too. At first I thought it was my mind playing tricks on me but the other day I had the drivers side window down and I heard it distinctly. It doesn't happen all the time maybe once or twice a week. It also only happens during specific circumstances. The only time it occurs is when I'm in a higher gear doing low speeds and accelerating. Say I'm slowing down for a red light and I'm in 3rd gear doing 20mph. If the light turns green and I gently start accelerating without a downshift I hear this knocking sound. Its almost as if the engine is being bogged down because the transmission is not shifting down. I'm not sure if this is an engine issue or a transmission issue. I'm thinking it could be that the adaptive transmission learnt my restraint driving style and does not want to shift down for me. Maybe it's time to either reset the adaptive transmission so it will forget my driving style and have to relearn it again or maybe I'll try to drive with a bit more vigor and a heavier foot so the tranny would adapt to that and downshift for me more easily.

The sound I hear reminds me of back in the old days when you put cheap gasoline into a car. I exclusively use Shell gas because all the convenient gas stations around my house are Shell. Maybe I'll switch to another brand to see if that would cure the issue. Funny thing is when you open up the hood there is a sticker specifically stating that Porsche engines come equipped with anti-knock technology.

Here's another thread I found on the Rennlist forums regarding this:

No amount of ping is EVERy normal. Your service advisor is an idiot. Get a new one or a new dealer.

I agree, the advisor is misinformed. I pull a 6,000+ lb trailer up the mountains, and even with 24 gallons of 91 octane once (93 wasn't available) there was never a ping. Perhaps your station "confused 87" with the 93 tank.
