C's Bimmer is infamous around these parts
So going back to my questions...LOL!

1. Has anyone removed the trailer hitch and what's involved?

2. Has anyone replaced their highbeams? Not sure why the high beams are halogen when everything else on the car is LED/Xenon, but it would sure be nice to swap these out.

I would not do either of those things! You have to take off the bumper and other stuff to remove the trailer hitch. You also have to probably reprogram the car that it is not there. Just leave it. It is an SUV. It is supposed to have a hitch. It will increase resale.
As for the head lights I don't know but most things like this are not simple.
You end up changing things you never thought would be involved.
You got a great car just enjoy it.

Here is a thread ob RL where someone has removed the hitch. Not sure if it is the same for the 958s though.

I have not come across any threads on this. That is not to say it can't be done, but it sounds like it would indeed involve some sort of reprogramming. In my opinion, not worth the hassle. How often do you drive with high beams on?

I actually have another SUV, which has a hitch, but I have never used it. I'm also about to purchase a Jeep Wrangler Sahara and that will have a hitch, but again, I probably won't use it either. I just feel that this GTS should not have the hitch -- it just doesn't belong on this model Cayenne IMO. I got all the details on the lights and have ordered them. I just hate halogen lights, so I decided to go with new HID's for all (headlights, fogs and highbeams). I've always upgrade the HID's on my BMW's, as I live in pot hole central and the upgraded lights make a big difference when it comes to avoiding pot holes.

Thanks! It doesn't look so bad, so I'm going to have my bodyshop remove it.

I went ahead and ordered new D1S bulbs (6000K -- stock is 4300K) for the headlights, 6000K H11 for the Fogs and 6000K H7's for the highbeams. The car has auto-highbeams, so I'd rather use HID's than the stock halogens, when necessary. I did slim ballasts for the H7 and H11's, so that should help.

I've always upgraded the lights on my BMW's, so it's not so bad. No reprogramming is required, as long as you keep the wattage the same (55W).

Cool. Post pics of your post-bulb swap. Be interested in how they look.

Thanks for the info on replacement lamps.
I'm interested in replacing mine as well.

As far as the hitch removal, it's easier removing... than adding IMO.
First and foremost, locate a forum member that has the bumper beam laying around after installing a hitch kit.
Otherwise, you'll have to locate an OEM part from a Porsche dealer/supplier.

Next:
  • Remove the bumper, unbolt and remove the hitch
  • Add the vehicle bumper beam to the location previously occupied by the hitch
  • I would suggest leaving the wiring kit, or if you have to, just remove the 7-pin connector. I cannot think of why this should require reprogramming or needing further removal.

See the below link for adding a hitch kit...it should give you an idea of what hitch install entails.
http://www.curtmfg.com/masterlibrary..._13220_INS.PDF

I have limited experience in adding a hitch kit to my CTT.
I wish i had kept the structural beam for instances like this where a fellow 6speed'er needs the part.

Good luck and great car!

Congrats! Very nice.

Good to see another M5 person here as well. We liked our E70 X5 too but the Cayenne GTS is just better.

Couldn't agree more! So much happier. Just curious, but are you on M5Board, Bimmerfest or Bimmerpost? I'm a long time member on those forums and would love see some of your threads of your M5.

I'm on both M3post and M5post (WCH). Have watched your M5s over time. Just traded my M3 today for a 991 TT.

I'm jelous

Lately, I've been consumed with the Porsche Configurator dreaming of what my future 991 TT will look like.

Post a pic please!

I got ya! I look forward to seeing pics around Christmas then.
My CTT was a Christmas present to myself last year. I'd like to see gifts like that more often

Anyways, I had to go and build your Turbo in the Porsche Configurator....I have no doubt it will look killer in person
