New To Me 2011 CD - Some Questions

Hi all

I'm back in the Porsche stable with a 2011 CD and have some initial questions whilst I get used to the 958 which differs greatly from the 2 x 955 CTT's Ive had before, in a good way, for almost all things

Car has done 50k miles, full OPC history, OPC warranty and very clean throughout.

1. Whats the normal time to get to engine operating temp and what temp is that? I noticed mine takes about 15 mins of driving before the needle even starts to move and then goes to about 75 on the gauge, is that standard?

2. Im getting around 32 mpg (UK) from it with pretty steady driving, this seems low, whats expected? I base the statement on my 955 turbo's doing bang on what the official figures said for the same commute?

3. Im going to use premium diesel (at much higher prices here) and plan to put an additive in with each tank, Archoil probably, after good results in terms of smoothness, quitness, response etc. in my last few cars, Cayenne's included. Ive read about Blue something or other on here, whats that please?

I have to say I love this car, its jet black with black interior, PASM, pan roof, Bose, 20" RS Spyder wheels, privacy etc. I dread to think how good the Turbo must be

Thanks in advance

Carl

Welcome back.

Guessing your gauge is in Celsius so I won't speak to the specific numbers, but the time will vary based on the driving. Mine is usually warmed up (roughly middle of the gauge and that's where it stays) by about 5 miles if traffic is light and I'm moving. 10-15 minutes is probably close to right if I'm stuck idling in stop and go traffic.

Your MPG differs from ours so it's hard to be exact, but over here the estimate is 21/29. In mixed driving I'm getting about 28 according to the PCM, but the actual is 5-6% below that.

Your MPG is of course going to be based on your driving habits. Have you had other diesels? The CD likes to cruise so you'll get your best numbers when you are on the motorway and just let it run (I can get 34-36MPG doing 70-80mph). If you have to do a lot of stop/start, keeping your RPMs below 2k helps quite a bit and let it coast.

3. Im going to use premium diesel
Lucky bastard! I'd pay your petrol prices if I could get quality fuel over here...

We use PowerService over here, but same concept. On our crapy 40 cetane I see enough of an improvement to cover the cost of the stuff, but nothing more. I also don't notice anymore power from it.

Bluespark Automotive is actually local to you (well more local than us). I was impressed with their 1.0 unit as the MPG and power improvements were noticeable, but it was tuned for the EU ECU and that ultimately caused problems with our ECUs. I was not impressed with the 2.0 unit and haven't been running it as I was not feeling the power change or seeing as significant MPG boosts. You can follow the link in my sig to see info about the 1.0 box (which I believe they are still selling to EU owners) and towards the end there should be a link to Greg's 2.0 thread.
