CD towing enclosed trailer?
CD towing enclosed trailer?
I currently have a steel texas rollback open trailer that weighs roughly 3000 lbs. I tow my racecar (3000 plus about 200 pounds of equipment) and it tows great.
Looking at a 3600 lb. enclosed trailer. Anyone else tow with an enclosed trailer? I'm guessing that my 200 pounds of extra gear would wind up being about 500 eventually, putting my total around 6900-7100 lbs.
I know the weight is within limits, but wondering about the physical characteristics of the higher drag enclosed trailer.
Anyone with real world insight?

In July, I towed my 2700 lb car in a 24' enclosed trailer from the DC area to Plymouth, MI and back with my CD.
It towed great! I especially liked the adaptive cruise control, which worked really well (with the max distance setting between cars).
My CD has the air suspension with PASM- and I recommend that highly.

I see you are in GA- I am using a trailer built by one of the many trailer mfgs there, and while it isn't in the same league as my old Aluminum Trailer Co trailer that I had for my race car, it is perfectly adequate for the occasional use I have for it now.
If you are having one built, consider ordering it with the screwless (or rivetless) exterior, LED lights (the 15 CD handles these well without an adaptor), perhaps an escape door if your car warrants it, and e-track on the floor (and sides, if you carry a lot of stuff that can be strapped to the walls).

I have towed my 24' ATC enclosed about 1500 miles; aside from issues with my Prodigy RF ****ting the bed after my long trip, it was painless. The hand calculated mileage was 14mpg, which is not bad considering the 70-75mph I towed most of the trip. when the brake controller works, the braking was fine. I did have to put my car (2015 F80 M3) all the way to the back of the trailer to get the weight in the right spot, but even with the standard suspension it was good to go.
I was concerned that the trailer would be too big but it towed great. Trailer weight is about 3100lbs, the car weighs 3550 and I had 12 gallons of fuel, 2.5 gallons of def, a tool box plus (4) tires for the car, 1 wheel/tire spare for the Cayenne and some assorted crap. Max weight was probably 7300lbs or so.

nice to know, thanks! Looks like I have the open trailer potentially sold now.
Thinking about getting one of these: http://www.racingjunk.com/Open-Car-A...p-in-V-N.html# I love that half of the V nose opens as another entry ramp.
