What does "scan" CD do?

When I insert an audio CD in my dash to play it, there is an option to SCAN. When I press it, the CD tracks play for about 10 seconds and it skips to the next track and keeps repeating the cycle. What is this for?

In my BMW there was an internal hard drive and you could record a CD onto the hard drive. I don't think my 2013 Cayenne has that?

That's it ...

That's exactly what "scan" means, it plays a few seconds of each track in case you want to locate a song. Remember, CD's don't usually have song names stored on them (and most CD players cannot read CD-Text anyway), so there is a chance you have no idea what is actually on it. Ah, the olden days ....

Doesn't this work with radio too? It will pick up any major channels and let's you browse through different channels.

Only 2013 Cayennes that are produced starting Nov, 2012 have the internal music storage(Jukebox). Even then, you can only transfer songs from a connected USB flash drive into the Jukebox, you cannot record from a CD.

So funny that this button still exists. I don't know anyone who has ever used it.
