Smell of burning oil in 2005 Cayenne Turbo

Happy New Year to all. I am a new member. Just bought a 2005 Cayenne Turbo and love it. Know that it will use oil, as I have read based on the turbo use. Haven't been romping, driving pretty easy but recently i've got a burning oil smell (sometimes) when driving. I've got 96K miles. Any concerns?

Thanks much.

RTR

How much oil are you consuming? Say per 1k miles?

Haven't had long but have put about 2k on the pepper after a trip to Sugarbowl. I've put two quarts so far in and will check with next fuel stop.

Thanks to my new friends for the quick response.

Porsche allows up to a quart of consumption for every 600 miles of travel. So it sounds like you are still with in specifications. Look forward to seeing a few pictures, what is considered cold in AL? It was -18 just the other morning

Thanks for the replies. Makes the sphincter factor go down. I believe I'm certainly within the allowance.

Cold in AL is what we just had. 4 degrees with -2 or -3 wind chill. Coldest in 20 years or more. I blame Global warming. BTW, I attempting to open the hatch...wouldn't open. drove around with alarm going off for hatch open. finally got it open and closed. It was frozen shut. had it outside until I cleaned the garage and put it in better conditions.

Will clean up and post pic soon.

Thx,

RTR

2004 Cayenne TT

I have started smelling oil myself. Love my car but the wife hates it. I bought it for her but she had me take it and buy her a Lincoln. She made a mistake...hahaha...

Mine uses some oil, but it seems really inconsistent. Also seems like it used more in hot weather than winter. Its well within spec, but I still check it and document on every fuel change. I haven't been able to determine what variable is causing it to use much more oil than others some times.

I was going to say just about the same thing. It seems like sometimes mine goes months without needing to add any and other times it seems to happen a lot quicker. I can't figure out what makes the difference either.

I just put a quart of oil in the hidey-hole in the passenger side of the cargo area and it's there if I need it. I have noticed that usually once the warning light comes on it is down just about a quart.

Same place I keep a spare quart and funnel Ive never had the oil warning light come on, I guess that's a good sign for mine.. Or maybe previous owner disabled it

A burning oil smell in the cabin or outside the car has little to do with the normal oil consumption expected from these cars. I have an 06 Turbo that developed a small oil leak. It came from the valve cover gasket and each night a few drops dripped on the manifold during the night. The burning oil smell went away after the gasket was replaced.

More than likely its the valve cover gaskets as another poster pointed out. Mine is a 05 Turbo with only 46k miles and mine are leaking very slowly. When it warms up in Michigan I'm going to change them out along with the O-rings on the intercooler and turbo pipes (another source for leaking).
