used Cayenne info9
Looking for a used Cayenne. Would appreciate info and opinions. Will do some towing of a boat. Not often, 18 ft with trailer. What years to watch out for, what are possible areas of concern, etc. I assume I should look for a 2004-2006 S, maybe a 2008 6 or 8 cyl. Thanks, I allready have gotten a lot of info from here!
For towing an 18' boat I would opt for a V8. Otherwise all the standard advice holds - well maintained, good records, get an inspection, and have fun. There aren't any "bad years".
If you have not subscribed to Excellence then do it and join the Porsche club and get Panorama. They both have excellent tech section and buyers guides. There are a few problems with used Cayenne's notably the coolant pipes, driveshaft and ignition coil replacements. Currently there is a class action lawsuit over the coolant pipes that is working its way through the courts.
Anybody selling the car will want to prove to you that the work was done and without it I would not buy the car.
Seems reasonable, but I may be buying from a non-Porsche dealer. Also, what are the big maintenamce intervals, and what do they entail? 60k, 100k, etc? Thamks!

Google the vin or ask them to see the carfax and see when and where the services have been and call up that dealer and ask. The used car dealer does not give a crap about you just the car they have to move.
Get the vin and check with your local dealer and ask how the car has been serviced. My concern with a used car dealer is that they bought the car at auction or from the Porsche dealer. The dealer will ship off the cars that cost them too much to bring up to PCA standards. If it is too expensive to fix all the problems, brakes, tires etc they get rid of the cars.
