Guys, need your help big time.

I have been trying to fight this urge to get a cayenne for last 6 months. But I've failed big time.
So now I'm in the market for a cayenne (albeit a used one, targeting 2004-2006).



Just to let u guys know, I drive 200 miles to and from work 4 days a week. Currently using my 911 on once a week basis. It is fun. And it is fast. But as I have back pain, it gets worse on some days with 911.
Other days I use my SUV (land cruiser). So it is comfortable but not as fun!


Now comes ur part: what would u do if u were in my shoes?
what is a reasonable mileage that you would target?
S vs turbo?
Maintenance prices?

Seems to me the 2006 Cayenne Turbo S is the cure. I don't think I've ever heard anyone say it isn't fun, fast, or comfortable.

Maintenance. Well. You know what they say:
"Good, Fast, or Cheap. You may only pick two."

I remember reading a fairly thorough review by the photography guy, Ken Rockwell a few years ago, google it up, I think it will help you find resolve in your search.

The best thing about the Turbo S, is you will never wonder which might have been better than the other.

I would not buy a used turbo anything that is over 8 years old as your main car or even one that you will put on the miles.

 

Cayenne S hands-down.

 

As a used, high mileage commuter vehicle, I would be inclined to shoot for the lowest mileage truck I could find for my money. That would be the S in this case.

But know that there is nothing you can do to improve the HP performance of an S. It is what it is, which is no slouch. On the other hand, if high HP is supremely important and to achieve that goal you are someone who invests in power mods, then the Turbo not only has a better baseline, but there are several things you can do to bump it up even more.

Obviously past maintenance is a factor too. There is fairly expensive maintenance scheduled at 65K (about $2K I think). So pay attention to trucks around that mileage point and if the maintenance was recently done or coming up. And of course, make sure the coolant pipes have been done. That's roughly a $2K job. So a slightly higher mileage Turbo with these things done vs. a slightly lower mileage S without them done is something to be aware of when comparing prices.

I also have a 911 and got a 08 Cayenne S in August. I think for a daily driver you'd be better off with the S. Turbo is of course a different beast. Faster,Air Suspension,and lots of other fun goodies. You have your 911 for your speed fix and your Cayenne S to still look good while doing your daily driving haha. It's a win win.

 

If you are having some back issues, you will want the air suspension with PASM. For some reason, it is hard to find a Cayenne S spec'd with air suspension. However, the CTT has it standard. Oh and the turbo will be more fun since the power to weight will be similar to a base 911 Carrera (possibly even Carrera S).

 

Save your money and may a Macan when they hit the dealers.
