Need to rehab 1981 Mercedes

I bought a project car and have it mostly corrected mechanically and now need to address the paint. I ran a machine on the hood with 3M Perfect it II and it did a good job but probably need to go at least one level more aggressive to correct oxidation.

Can you guys recommend a good combo of pad/compound to hit it with? I have a PC 7424

TIA

Doug

Go with the Menzerna/Lake Country combo Doug. You'll need Menzerna Super Intesive Polish and Nano Polish. You'll also need Lake Country's Orange and White CCS Curved Pads. Here's the Holiday Promotion that still in effect. You'll see the Swirl Removal Kit on Special.

ProDetail is infamous around these parts
3m Perfect it II is 3 generations old, it is not terrible stuff but in my opinion there is alot better stuff on the market. I would also steer you into the Menzerna line of products. Before I recommend what products to use I have a couple of questions, What color is the vehicle, do you have a high speed buffer, were any panels repainted?

Thanks Moe,

Car is Manilla Beige, I do believe the drivers rear quarter has been repainted. I have a PC, don't know if that qualifies as high speed.

Oxidation is very difficult to permanetly remove. The PC might not cut all of the oxidation out. If you only have a PC, you can try removing the oxidation with an orange pad and Intensive Polish followed by a white pad and final polish. In my experience, the older technology polishes tend to work better than the nano-polishes with the older, softer, single stage paint that was used in 1981 by Mercedes-Benz. The best advice I can give you is to try the products on a small section to determine what will work best for your situation.

I would say that any Menzerna combo would work.

IP and Micro polish

SIP and PO85RD

Pads:
Green or Orange pad followed by white (CCS Pads)

Hit me up if you need anything else.
