Porsche 996 Lens Cover Rash

the lens covers on my 996 have patches where the surface is rough, and it looks like a rash. it previously lived in rhode island where the previous owners neglected it awfully. i'm guessing they parked it outside in the salt air a lot because the patches look like the corrosion you see on boats; very rough and oxidized. you can actually feel the roughness of the surface with your hand.

i tried zaino glass polish, zaino all-in-one, griots polish #3 and polishing compound. all applied with a cotton cloth. no joy. the plastic is clear and i'm afraid if i use anything too abrasive or apply polish with my orbital i'll scuff it up.

any of you pro detailers have lens cover polishing secrets?

The lenses need to be polished using a rotary. Best left to the pros. Take it to a reputable body shop and they should be able to machine polish it out. In extreme cases, you may need to have them wetsand, compound, and polish the area. I don't think you'll have much luck tackling this by hand.
