Rubber trim under the Windows...

I'm trying to explain, the best way I can put it is the rubber/plastic trim between a door panel and window, I just purchased a 2005 997S and The trim is getting that "stuff" on it. I feel like an idiot here because I can't explain it, but it's that weathered look, rough textured, slightly discoloring deal going on.

I'm sure most of you know what i'm talking about, it's just not smooth feeling to the touch. My question is... is that something a certain product will work on restoring the rubber to a new condition or must you replace those pieces for that.

I'm VERY sorry for the screwed up description, please don't make fun

Know exactly what you're talking about. What works for me is VERY simple. After you've washed the car, clean all the plastic trim using einszett Cockpit Premium or Plastic Cleaner. You simply spray the product on a microfiber towel and wipe it back and forth on the trim. Then I condition the trim with zymol Tyre. It gives the trim a nice satin look as oppose to a more shinny/glossy look. I'll post some pictures later today. Hope this helps.

So will this treatment reverse the rough, brownish spots, and make it closer to new condition?

Yes. Does a great job of bringing the original look back to all the trim.

Thank you, I'm going to be PMing you shortly for you to put together an order for me, I've tried on your site but I think it would be easier that way. Thanks!

I got the same products from Moe and I'm very happy with the results. The pics aren't the best and my detailing leaves a lot to be desired, but I think you get the jist.

Here are a few Before/Afters on a 996 Turbo trim:

Before

Before/After...The right side is not cleaned....the left side is cleaned using einszett Plastic Cleaner

Final Result....a satin sheen is the proper look for the trim. I'm not a fan of the shiny and greasy plastic look. Simple, clean, and well protected.

Before

After

The trim on the left is after einszett Plastic Cleaner. Notice the clean and dull look. The rubber is now properly prepped to be conditioned using zymol Tyre.

Before

After

Moe, Very nice! Do you just apply carefully, I suppose that getting some on the paint is fine as long as you just wipe it off?

You want to be careful w/ the einszett plastic cleaner, not a huge deal if it touches the paint. Just make sure you wipe it down with a detail spray if it does. The zymol Tyre is ok if it touches paint, just wipe down w/ detail spray.

Flyer007 is infamous around these parts
Very nice results.

I just did the wiper plastic tray which was VERY grey and blotchy. I used Black Wow. For the whole tray, side mirror mounts and the rubber around main windshield I probably used 8 pea sized drops. For window trim I was working in drops the size of a pencil tip.

It was amazing how it came out. I will try and get some pictures up.

Is this a long lasting solution to the window seals, or just like the tires, it only lasts until the next wash??

If not long lasting, is it reasonable to say only other thing to do is replace the rubber seals?

Tyre will not wash off after a few applications because it penetrates the rubber. It's the cheaper products that are laden with silicone which only sit on the surface giving you the illusion of a properly conditioned trim. Once the trim is cleaned with the einszett Plastic Cleaner, a few applications of zymol Tyre are needed over a few weeks and then you can let it go for a few months depending on the soap you use to wash the car and how often you're washing. If you use an aggressive soap, like the ones in the auto parts store, you will strip the Tyre off prematurely.
