UPDATE:

followed the instructions on cleaning. Alternator conked. so be carefull in cleaning your engine bay. after having the alternator repaired and getting a new voltage regulator the alternator conked again. dont know what else got damaged. having the car sent to my indie again tomorrow

Was this an original alternator? You have a 996? This just could be a fluke. We've done hundreds of engine detail this way and not 1 single incident. Ask your indie if it could just have been time to replace the alternator.

Hey moe, yes its the original alternator that conked. electrician thinks the reason for the alternators went out was a short due a cut wire he found on top of the engine ( just under the intake thing) Now im not sure if getting the refurbished alternator can take getting wet.

Good to hear you found the problem. Like I said, we've been washing this way for over a decade and haven't had a problem.
