sites with detailing tips?

I was just wondering if there were any sites out there that explain all the steps to detailing and maybe even recomend products? I have washed and waxed my car plenty of times but it never comes out really really good. After the wash theres often still some spots on it and the wax doesnt always seem to come off as well as I would like it to. I would just like a site to explain the steps to detail and tips on doing it succesfully. Also, I am not quite sure what "clay" does? Any help would be greatly appreciated I dont need extremely extensive because I am not doing shows or anything, I just want to give my car a nice and clean looking shine.
