Difference b/w Contaminant Removal on Wheels vs. Body

Looking for an explanation from the pros of the difference between using Sonax Full Effect on the wheels and Iron Cut/Iron X on the exterior.

According to the Detailed Image website, Sonax "rapidly breaks up just about anything your wheels can come in contact with. It is non corrosive and pH neutral so you can use it on any wheel surface such as chrome, alloy, clear coated, polished, anodized, stainless steel, etc." There are no instructions for using it on the exterior of the car.

The same website describes Iron X by saying "with one quick treatment you can remove the vast majority of contaminants on your vehicle's exterior surfaces with little to no work. This gentle formula is pH neutral yet incredibly effective at removing build ups even the naked eye can't see." Iron Cut can apparently be used on wheels, as well.

If Sonax is pH neutral like Iron Cut, can it be safely used on the exterior? Any help would be appreciated.

Jeff

I've used plenty of both and I feel the Sonax is thicker and adheres to the surface much better than IC while IC may penetrate deeper and longer. I would use Sonax for wheels only and IC for body only. I'd also look at IC soap. I feel one of the best approaches to wheel cleaning is a removal of the wheel, decon by whatever means you feel is efficient followed by a compound stage like Megs 300 to 105 followed by Megs 205 and finally a wheel sealant like Migliore. At this point use deionized water under pressure for your wheels to get the brake dust loose and removed.

Thanks, Doc. My real question, which I didn't clarify in my initial post, is if I already have Sonax do I need to also buy Iron X, especially given that they appear to have a similar composition? I appreciate your response but am curious why you think Iron Cut penetrates deeper and longer if Sonax adheres to the surface much better?

Please refer to what I wrote earlier. Iron X on paint and Sonax on wheels. There is no need to have both products for wheels only. I have both, as I wrote about, Sonax for wheels and Iron X for paint (I have both spray and shampoo).
