3m fun removal. Need a little help !

I have been trying to remove very old 3m film on my 03' turbo. This stuff has been on there since new (03').
I tried using heat and it seems to make things worse. When using heat a very very very thin layer removes leaving a sticky mess. I presume this is the broken down glue. The only way it seems to remove it is to press and roll it off with my fingers. This is exhausting and my hands are killing me. It has taken me about 5 hrs to do a strip 2" wide x 8" long.
There must be a better way!
A chemical perhaps !
Any help would be appreciated.
