88 Benz Question (MOVED)

My father has a 88 MB 560 SEC 2 door coupe in the garage that i will be restoring/detailing in the spring, i am interested in this zymol wax specially forumalated for Red cars without a clear coat, im not sure if the car has one or not though, any suggestions on any other products would be nice, but does anyone know if the car has a clearcoat?

i moved this from the AMG section, hopefully will have more luck here

most red paint does not have clearcoat, esp from that vintage.

try zaino also. what's the condition of the paint? if the condition isn't good, you may want to get a full detail. you may need to clay it before applying polish, wax etc .

im going to be detailing the car myself. the paint is MINT its just dusty as hell and dirty but a nice detail will make it shine, im thinking the zymol will work very well i just want to be sure.

You can tell if a single stage, clear and paint is mixed, or multi-stage, paint is shot and then clear goes over it by the following. Take a small bit of light polish on a terry towel. Gently rub the paint and see if you se any color. If you do, you have a single stage. If not, you have a separate clear coat. Your MB should be a multi-stage paint job meaning you will have a separate clear. But test to make sure. The Zymol Rouge you're talking about is OK. I think polishing the paint and then waxing it would be a better idea. Try HD-Cleanse and then Titanium. Hope this helps.

Why do you say most red paint doesn't have a clear? All paint types have a clear. The newer ones, past the 1970's, for the most part have a clear. Everything now days has a clear. Just wanted to know the logic. Thanks.
