Teflon

My Porsche dealer suggested a "teflon treatment" for my car in order to restore the old (not so old, 5 years) paint. He told me they do it on every pre-owned car before putting it up for sale. Unfortunately, I was in a rush and I didn't ask for more details.
Do you know exactly what this teflon treatment is? Any of you has a direct experience?

Thx

I would pass on any of the treatments that are done by a dealer. I would rather you just do the normal wash and wax yourself.

From DuPont's site: The original form of Teflon® is polytetrafluoroethylene, or PTFE. The molecular structure of Teflon® is based on a chain of carbon atoms, the same as all polymers. Unlike some other fluoropolymers, in Teflon® this chain is completely surrounded by fluorine atoms. The bond between carbon and fluorine is very strong, and the fluorine atoms shield the vulnerable carbon chain. This unusual structure gives Teflon® its unique properties. In addition to its extreme slipperiness, it is inert to almost every known chemical.

As far as I know, DuPont will do nothing to protect your paint. It's properties don't actually bond with the substrate, your finish, unless it reaches a heating point hundreds of degrees over what your paint will ever reach. SIMONIZ is the leading car care company that is licensed to use Teflon. So, skip it. You're better off using a good wax like Einszette, Zymol, or P21S.

2nd what Moe said I was looking for that definition as well. I took a course on paint and that was one of the issues discussed telfon in short is a waste of time on your car's paint. Let me see if I can find the article that we had in class.

DuPont actually mentioned several years ago that Teflon does nothing for the surface of a car. I find it funny that years later they released a line of car care products called Teflon. They are just using a well-known name to sell products, much like Bose and Sony.
