Passing on a 458 for F430 Spider & Gallardo?
Hello,
I have been looking at buying an almost new 458 italia for a while now and have decided I would get more pleasure from two totally different cars than one that is, well, rather expensive. I do realize the 458 is in a totally different league so please don't suggest I "just do it" and will be thrilled, 300k is too much for ONE car for me at this point in my life but two depreciated cars should do just fine. Having owned a handful of highly modified bmw's, pcar's and an evo I can do normal maintenance myself. However this does not include servicing the car with things like cam belts and similar. I'm looking for cars that are totally different than what i've had in the past and have ZERO intention of modifying them just pure, practical pleasure. Both cars will be driven 5-7k miles a yr each and I intend to enjoy them rain or shine, these will also be my first droptops!
I have a few questions about the particulars of each....
-280-290k budget for both cars (exc taxes, shipping, etc)
Ferrari F430 Spider
-What yr should I buy due to updates/changes?
-Should I buy a car with 15k+ miles that has had the big service or one with 6-10 and just expect to pay for the belts?
-How do the carbon ceramics compare with the gallardo/gt3rs/zr1? Do you need to switch to a track pad like the pcar pccbs?
-Does the spider develope any squeaks or rattles being no roof?
-How does the F1 compare with Egear or SMG?
-Any other things I should know that **** off owners with high expectations?
Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder
-I've spent a fair amount of time in an 08 egear coupe and loved it on the track, the CCB's were fad free and had great modulation with ****tons of heat in them. Neither of these cars will be seeing as much track time as any of my other cars but they still need to give a couple laps to me over the coming years. What do I need to know about the spyder version that differs from the coupe? I know the 04-05 had different engine/gearing, are there any sizeable differences between the 06+ spyders?
*Also what can I do to get some sort of electronical and powertrain warranty, even for 6mo-1yr how much do these run?
Thanks for your time and imput!

The F430 has cam chains so you don't need to worry about those.
And I think it doesn't really matter what MY you get on the Ferrari, just make sure all the services has been done and all the paperwork checks out and you should be fine.
The Gallardo was updated in 06 as you said and the gearbox is a lot better on the 06+ models, the gearshifts became a lot smoother and faster.

I went same route with you, Both are 2006 spiders, love driving both but feels very different.
check out more info on fchat and lambo forum before you get, bunch of knowledgeable people over there

I own a GT3 RS and plan on keeping this car for a very long time. I am contemplating/hoping to purchase a Ferrari/Lambo in the next few years, so hopefully I'll be joining you guy in owning very different type of exotics. How exciting! Good luck with your future purchase.
having 2 exotics makes little sense to me. i would take 458 to experience the best of exotics. your operating cost would be lower due to warranty in place too. depreciation isn't bad at all on 458. 430 and gallardo are both fine exotics but neither is the benchmark. if you can afford the best, don't settle for 2nd best. just my 2 cents anyways.
there is only one drawback on the 458 - it's too refined compared to the F1 transmission. the dual clutch doesn't give you the kick. otherwise, the sound from 458 is actually better than modified 430 or gallardo. you can't beat that.

This whole thread makes little sense to me. $300K is too much to spend on one exotic at this point in your life but $300K on 2 exotics is fine? And the 2 you want to buy are 430 and gallardo spiders because they are such different experiences? Really?
If it was me I would just go for the 458.. It would be nice having those other 2, but the 458 is the best at the moment...My friends at DOMANI had a sick looking black 458 when I was there last.. if I had the funds free I would have bought it ..was sick looking...
