The driving experience on the 458 failed to deliver what I was expecting to be quite honest. *flame suit on*
It was fun, but not involved enough for my liking. Hella lot faster than my GT3 for sure, but as MCGT3 mentioned, the butt dyno kicked in less. for almost three times the price of my GT3, it delivered 1/2 the joy. Which was a real bummer.
The scuderia being manual, I have a feeling would add more to the joy (I like rowing gears).

It sounds like you have a stable of cars and this would be more of a fun weekend car, so get what moves you not what is more practical and technical. These are cars that should be bought with passion and emotion that comes from how you feel when driving them. So bother them with a test drive.
I don't know which one I would take, and I have experienced both. It really is a tough choice.
I have my daily drive Mini Cooper JCW (fits everywhere, throw it anywhere, and yeah :P), my GT3, my C4 GTS, Hyundai Tucson (seriously, they've come a long way! I'd never thought I'd recommend a Hyundai) for going to the mountains/moving stuff, and a small surprise that I've been waiting one year for delivery. (pictures as soon as I get it). I figured an F-car to finally have a "true supercar".

The 458 is an awesome achievement and outperforms the Scud in most areas - except the "butt dyno". It is faster, but doesn't communicate that to you.

The Scud market is also tanking and you can get a car for short money right now. Yellow however is not a desirable color when it comes to resale - if that's a concern.
Resale is meh for me. I figure an F-car is something people keep and don't concern myself much with resale value. Red is a bad luck color for a car to me. I've owned two red cars: ended up in a 5 car accident with one, and the other got stolen in less than 60 seconds. So as much as I'd love to go Ferrari Red, I'll stay away
I'll keep it in mind that the market for one is tanking though. Might give me more time to make up my mind

You're right about the 458, it is extremely fast, but you don't feel it
To me, I care more about how much fun I have in it more so than if I am actually faster. I don't race my car nearly enough for a few seconds to matter. It is all about driving pleasure

The Scud I feel will deliver that more.

Thanks all for the replies, you're helping me with my decision. I'm leaning towards the Scud. If they offer me the warranty, and the mileage is decent, with no weird history on the car then I will strongly consider it.

Sounds like you want a 458 and are only thinking about a Scud due to price. Get a 458 , even if you have to wait a bit (re funds) since thats what u want.

They are not available in manual to my knowledge
The couple I had the privilege to drive were paddle shift.

Correct. Only transmission available is the F1 SuperFast 2 automated-clutch manual, which is controlled by carbon-fiber paddle shifters mounted on the steering column.

Scud as I recall is ~ 400 lbs lighter than a 458 Italia, and such weight difference is very noticeable.

The suspension in the Scud is superior than the one in the 458 Italia. The Scud comes with Titanium springs and Sachs (German) shocks. The Italia comes with Beijing Industries shocks, heavier (extra unsprung weight) and steel springs (heavier too). The 458 loses the double wishbone rear suspension due to the bulk caused by the heavier and bigger transmission.

For me, if the Scud is to be used for heavy track usage, it is not the proper car. Better options are available by other manufactures at half the price.

100% which is why I built my 458 to be blue ^_^

If they were the same price, you're probably right, I'd go for the 458 simply on the basis that it is newer and I love the look of it much much more.

I think I'll go with your advice and wait it out a bit more to accumulate more funds. (I only feel comfortable buying something if I can easily afford it three times over)

I personally prefer the looks of the scud over the 458. I still can't used to the front mustache on the 458. Hoping the 458 Scud/Monte Carlo will take care of that/eliminate it. Love the back of the 458 however.

Performance wise, the Scud is not that far off from a 458 especially on track.

Here's a 458 SPIDER vs. a Scud. Pretty even until the Scud hits its longer 6th gear.

Only you can decide what is best for you. Test drive both and you will know. Good luck!

very tough decision-- i have an '06 430-- TDF/tan with blue inserts. the color is amazing--have to believe there have been some neck injuries with people trying to get a look. the car gets a TON of attention-- the TDF/crema was my first choice--but found the blue/tan and pulled the trigger.

it also seems like the TDF blue on the 458 is a darker shade than the TDF on my '06--anyone else notice or am i just wrong?

so that being said based on color alone--the 458....BUT, personally i think the 430 is much better looking car than the 458....but from a performance/driving experience standpoint.....SCUD

has anyone ever seen a TDF scud?

My boss has a Scuderia and I've driven it to Monterey with him once. That car is not comfortable, but if you come from a GT3 RS, then adjusting to it wouldn't be difficult. The road noise can get annoying as well, but once you get on the throttle, you wouldn't notice anything else. I haven't driven the 458, but I'd imagine it would be a little bit more civilized.
