Quail is one of those few places where you can see the real h/w. Without doing a bit of homework, I can't say if this is real s/n or not, but it's certainly a possibility. OTOH, there are surely a few "tribute" (trying to be nice, here) cars floating around. And, some owners have copies commissioned so they can enjoy them without the fear of wrecking a priceless piece of automotive history/art.
Did you see that a 64 GTO crashed at Goodwood? There's a LOT of chatter about whether it's a real s/n or not. The owner has two real GTOs. However, it's also likely that the ones being raced are copies. It's also well-known in the vintage community that these cars can't compete against the "upgraded" E-types. So, it's more likely than not that it's a re-creation built up for racing.
