360 modena on the other hand....bye bye 996tt (maybe not as fast, but who cares)

Ive been so enticed with the Italian scene as of late too.. Only logical car's I can see myself getting are Gallardo Superleggera (use to love Gallardo's though, now they are blah ) or a Challenge Stradale which is a must have next car for me..

Thing is, like myself, it's a tough transition and to give up a car like your's or mine it will be missed!

Go for the 360 if you are switching, not 355!

That's a truthful statement.

The 355 is a fantastic car but prone to considerable service.

The 360 is more refined and few service issues.

Very different cars from Porsche.

The 355 would be a step backwards in technology. I agree that you should look at 360 or newer as a replacement.

One should look at earlier Ferrari's as a love and passion and not as daily drivers.

Ferrari's are not meant to be daily drivers as the maintenance costs are just too high.

Porsche is a wondeful car that can be driven daily. A Porsche owner does not have to worry about timing belts every 3 years or a replacement clutch every 8K-10K miles.

Ferrari's are wonderful cars that make unbelieveable sounds. An owner appreciates that more when driven infrequently.

i didn't go from a 996TT to a 355 but i have had both. as others have said, the 355 is a fantastic car, but it can get pretty expensive very quickly to maintain. i only spent a grand total of $700 in 13 months of ownership but that was 7 years ago and the car was only 5 years old at the time, and my dealer fixed a couple things at no cost that broke a short time after i bought it, and i was probably a bit lucky as well

but setting those factor aside and just based on pure driving experience? absolutely no comparison IMO, even though the 355 is considerably slower.

it certainly is a step backwards in technology since the car is 7 years older than first gen 996TT, but i don't always see that as a negative...

i would say NOT to trade the TT for the 355 but not for some of the reasons stated above...1st i think the 355 is a way better looking car than the 360...of course it would be techincally inferior to the 360 and the TT but it is by far a better looking car than both of them...the 355 will be slower and the steering will be less precise but thats like saying you will forego purchasing the 1955 SL roadster and get a modern SL500 b/c its not as fast...the only 360 worth buying is the challenge stadale as martin said...that will def. be my next f-car as well..

Great points made.

That's why I mentioned that owning earlier Ferraris is a love and passion.

They do lag a bit with technology but that's ok because they are what's left of the term "true sports car".

Once you have owned one, however, you always have that feeling for another.

Thanks for the input guys.. I'm not really serious about it but the idea just came into my mind. I've always loved the 355 although in reality, it's old school. Getting the car will not be a problem.. I'm just worried if I'm going to be support the maintenance ordeal.

For the 360, I don't think I can afford it yet... Maybe in a couple of years.

In terms of resale, which one is easier to sell ? TT or F355 ?

It's not really old school. It just does not have the electrical goodies cars have today and that's fine, because that's less to go wrong.

If you have a reliable and experienced Ferrari mechanic in your araea you would be ok. However, you need a thorough PPI done before purchase. 355's have expensive issues with headers, cats, and valve guides. If these have not had attention, you could be in for a $12K-$15K bill.

Long term you might find the 360 less expensive. You need a few extra $'s in your checkbook anyway for the unexpected costs.

That's a difficult question to answer and I would not purchase either based upon possible resale value. I would guess the 355 would hold a higher residual value, however.

i swear to god if you sell that RUF in gonna slap you around! i like the gallardo too, but i know what you mean...its not so enticing anymore...are we that jaded that a lambo is lame these days? the challenge is sick! i would pick a GT3 over one but after the GT3 a CS would be my second pick. but with the stradale you get a bare bones car...for me, i WANT A/C, and a radio, and floor mats so it wouldnt work for me...i actually saw some guy going to the supermarket the other day in one...lol...

keep your GT2 man...that car is something youll prob never come by again. i think for you, the only car you could step up to the be better would be an RT12, or CGT.

And the CS is very, very loud internally. A friend sold his recently, because his wife refused to ride with him due to the noise!

We have made beautiful floor mats for a few CS's to help damp the internal noise, but it's a minimal attempt.

The CS does have A/C but no radio. You would not hear it anyway!
