Garage Lighting
Garage Lighting
Need thoughts on upgrading my garage lighting. Currently have 2 incandescent fixtures (each hold 2 - 45w to 60w bulbs) connected to a indoor switch as you can see in the photos.
Ceiling height is @9 1/2'
My needs:
I would like more light where the existing fixtures are located.
Want to add fixtures to the other side of the header.
Want to control all lights using the same indoor switch.
Usage = basic garage with some wrenching, don't want a showroom garagae yet want an upgrade from builder quality. I can do some lite electrical work myself. Want to keep the cost reasonable.
thoughts?
Fluorscent / track / other
Best way to chain fixtures from one side of the header to the other and all still be connected to the same switch? (either drill thru the header (is that up to code?) or do an exterior run and put a plastic cover on it).
Saw something called LumaLink fluorescent lights where you could easily chain them together.
Was thinking of doing fluorescent fixtures to replace each existing fixture - running parallel to the header. Then, somehow link them to the other side of the header and have 2 fluorescent fixtures running perpendicular to the header.

They just upgraded our shop here at work with T5 flourscent lighting with reflective fixtures. HUGE reduction in electricity use, and they are Almost too bright! Nice and white, close to LED white. It's very nice to work in.
Ended up putting in T5 Fluorescent lights. Used two 4 bulb fixtures in the backside of the garage and two 2 bulb fixtures on the other side of the header (closer to the garage door). Came out great. Tons of light (kids said "brightest garage ever") - I may add a chain pull to the larger fixtures. Will see after I paint.
